Overview

Quick Overview

This is a book is about peace and how we can reach it as individuals and in the wider world. It supports the theory that peace is a spirit that starts with each of us, proposing ten steps to achieve it; The first is a mind stretching exercise to make space and appreciate the complexity of the world. The second describes the fundamental significance of breathing to human endeavour. The third considers listening as a discipline and what it can achieve. The forth is about becoming centred. The fifth shows that this focus gives us the power to heal with love. Then the sixth talks of respecting and why it matters. The seventh is about forgiving, on which perhaps the book pivots. The eighth considers how to find resolution to conflict. The ninth is about true leadership; what it is and isn't and the final step discusses peace itself.

About the Author:
Educated in Spain and at Bryanston School and reading Art History at Oxford Brookes, Anthony Russell worked as a fine art auctioneer and antique dealer in London before moving back to the West Country to follow the family tradition as a professional artist. Travelling extensively around the world, he combined painting with tour lecturing, principally to American university students on bespoke tours of Europe. He spent six years as a consultant for Luke Hughes and toured the country advising on the furniture needs of prestigious buildings, including museums, palaces, schools and cathedrals. Now based in London, he spends much of his time lecturing and undertaking research, while helping at the British Museum, hosting outreach events and visiting lecturers. His own lecture program includes presentations to the Church of England, architects, national and local societies and charities. He has published various articles on architecture and spirituality and contributed to 'The Ultimate Australian Adventure Guide'. He is passionate about the importance of art and music and their role in promoting 'understanding, cooperation and integration', which prompted him to found 'The Chandos'. He has helped run a therapeutic community in Dorset and spent extended periods in Zimbabwe and Argentina, undertaking research. This book is inspired by a life-long commitment to the principles of non-violence and is intended as recognition of its brave standard-bearers through history.
