NI529 - The Biodiversity Emergency- January/February 2021

The tremendous and rapid decline of our natural world is not a problem that is ‘out there’; it will affect all our lives, if we do nothing to reverse it. According to António Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations: ‘Humanity is waging war on nature. This is suicidal. Nature always strikes back – and it is already doing so with growing force and fury. Biodiversity is collapsing. One million species are at risk of extinction. Ecosystems are disappearing before our eyes… Human activities are at the root of our descent toward chaos. But that means human action can help to solve it.’

This edition of New Internationalist shines a light on the transformative changes we humans will need to make in order to allow nature to heal itself. In the process we could create a more equal and just world for ourselves as well.
