Myriad

Myriad publishes books to change hearts and minds, and offer new ways of seeing. We publish contemporary and historical literary fiction; crime, especially psychological and political thrillers; graphic novels that span a variety of genres including memoir and life writing, Graphic Medicine, documentary comics and fiction; and political non-fiction.

Founded as a packager in 1993, Myriad quickly won acclaim for its series of infographic geopolitical atlases, including the flagship survey of current events and global trends, The State of the World Atlas. Arts Council England Grants for the Arts in 2009 and 2011 enabled Myriad to expand into trade publishing. We developed a distinctive style of publishing focused on identifying and nurturing homegrown new talent. As part of our mission to support new and emerging authors we organise two work-in-progress competitions, one for fiction (First Drafts) and the other for graphic novels (First Graphic Novel Competition). Both have a track record of uncovering and launching authors who progress to achieve creative and commercial success.

Independent publishers are increasingly important to ensure that vital cultural and political work can exist despite extreme commercial pressures. In 2017 we merged with New Internationalist as part of a strategy to seek out and publish a variety of writers, building fresh audiences for their work and expanding our outreach at home and abroad. Combining political coherence and cultural diversity, we commission a select list of bold writing for a global audience. We publish to make a difference.
