If humans have nothing else in common, it’s that we all need to breathe. But over 90 per cent of us are breathing air that is unsafe. The May-June edition of New Internationalist focuses on another global health crisis, one that leads to the deaths of seven million people each year: air pollution. Now being linked to higher fatality rates among Covid-19 patients, the need for action is as important as ever.

In this magazine, we give you the politics and economics of air pollution and hear the human stories of those most affected, from Mumbai to Newcastle. We also include our first reflections on the Covid-19 pandemic and highlight instances of solidarity.
